The Porto Hospital Centre is the most recent public health institution to adopt Hepic. First's Epidemiological Surveillance System will be the Hospital's main working tool for the CCIRA (Commission for Infection Control and Antimicrobial Resistance) in the fight against what is now a true global epidemic: infections and antimicrobial resistance.
This project makes it possible to monitor the three hospital units that make up the Hospital Centre: Santo António General Hospital, Júlio Dinis Maternity Hospital and Joaquim Urbano Hospital. Hepic integrates with the Patient Management information systems (SONHO), SClínico, SAPE, Laboratory and Pharmacy and ensures monitoring of the approximately 700 inpatient beds.
Hepic enables the issuing of real-time alerts whenever an epidemiologically important microorganism is detected, the production of reports and statistics and, very importantly, makes it possible to operationalise the Antibiotic Prescription Support programme (PAPA).
The Porto Hospital Centre thus joins benchmark national bodies such as ULS do Alto Minho, C. H. do Alto Ave, C. H. do Tâmega e Sousa, C. H. de Vila Nova de Gaia e Espinho, Grupo José de Mello Saúde, Grupo Lusíadas Saúde, among others, with the overall aim of epidemiological surveillance and control of antimicrobial resistance.
