First Solutions’ Hepic acquired by São Teotónio Hospital in Viseu and by the Tâmega and Sousa Hospital Centre

The São Teotónio Hospital in Viseu and the Tâmega and Sousa Hospital Centre, of which the Hospitals of Amarante and Penafiel are a part of, acquired First Solutions’ Hepic, for the control of hospital infection.

Hepic is the solution that allows for the monitoring and control of the entire process of Epidemiological Surveillance of Infections Associated with Health Care (Vigilância Epidemiológica de Infecções Associadas aos Cuidados de Saúde – IACS).  This solution’s comprehensiveness comes from the real time inter-operability with the Health Units’ Information Systems, namely with the systems from the Microbiology Laboratory, Pharmacy, Emergency and HIS (SONHO).

The Hospital of São Teotónio serves a population of more than 90.000 inhabitants and has 632 beds distributed throughout 16 services, amongst which, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, ORL, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Neonatology and Psychiatry.  219 doctors and 648 nurses are part of the clinical body.

The Tâmega and Sousa Hospital centre, resulting from the fusion of the two Hospital units of Amarante and Penafiel, serves approximately 533.000 inhabitants.  It has 435 inpatient beds, distributed throughout several medical and surgical valences.  It has clinical specialties, amongst which, Anaesthesiology, Cardiology, General Surgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology/Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, ORL, Clinical Pathology, Paediatrics, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, Radiology and Urology.

Hepic will be integrated with the Hospital information system (HIS), the Pharmacy information system, the Microbiology Laboratory and with the Emergency service, both at São Teotónio Hospital, as well as at the Tâmega and Sousa Hospital Centre.
